Tyler began his martial arts journey when he stepped into Rising Sun Martial Arts Academy and started learning Jiu jitsu under Professor Debbie Burk.
Earning his first degree black belt; he began to assist in instruction at his home school. He would later branch out and attend sister schools and learn different teaching styles as well as instruct, hoping to learn and build on his current foundation of Budoshin Jujitsu (traditional Japanese style of Jiu-Jitsu). He would also receive additional instruction from Judo/Jiu jitsu Professor Reginald L. Hefner during this time of Tyler's pursuit of proficiency.
Soon after, Tyler started to teach on his own, first at Camp Foley where he taught teenagers the basic techniques of Jiu jitsu. Following Camp, he taught both self-defense, Jiu jitsu, Judo and Small Circle Jiu jitsu at The Hill Family Center YMCA and at the Family Fitness Center in Westminster. He now teaches at Grind Fitness in the Towson area.
