Q: How much do classes cost per person?
A: Individuals is $120 per month.
For a family, the first member will pay $120 and the second member will pay $80.
Q: My first time to class, what should I wear?
A: Light loose workout clothing.
Q: When can I start?
A: Anytime, just email the instructor about joining our Jujitsu program, when you come to class you must sign a Liability Waiver Enrollment form, Covid-19 Waiver form and a Media Waiver form.
Q: Is there belt ranks?
A: Yes, you will be tested for each belt and will be notified of any test before hand. You are tested when both you and the instructor feel ready.
Q: Is there a fee to testing for a certain belt?
A: Testing for belt ranks do not cost money they are free and that also includes black belt level and test retakes.
Q: How old does one need to be to join?
A: 12 years old and older are welcome, however the instructor can make an exception for younger adolescents based on maturity and coachability.
Q: How long does it take to reach black belt level?
A: It usually takes between 4 and 7 years depending on the student and the frequency of training. In Martial Academy of Jujitsu it will take at least 5 years, for more info click on the "Student Info" tab.
Q: I have been to a couple of classes, and I am interested in a uniform. How do I get one?
A: After a few classes and based on your interest you can purchase a white judo uniform online from a number of different websites.
Q: I have martial arts experience, am I allowed to wear my belt rank in class? Will you acknowledge it?
A: We will acknowledge your art and your rank depending on how related your art is to Jujitsu. We may allow you to wear your rank until you are tested for yellow belt, however that is not always the case.
Q: Is there a student handbook?
A: Yes, all you need to do is ask and one will be given to you at no cost.
Q: How seriously do you incorporate Japanese terminology in class and in belt tests?
A: Overall, We don't focus heavily on Japanese terminology.
At times we will use Japanese terminology in class, it will allow students to slowly learn the terminology.
In belt tests, we will use Japanese terminology from yellow belt test onward.
Keep in mind that we care more about the students foundation and their overall growth in the art, compared to understanding Japanese terminology. Understanding terminology and knowing it off hand matters more in the Brown belt levels where one is required to assist in class.
Q: Do classes run year round or only part of the year?
A: Classes run all year.
Q: Are ranks certified by an organization that is outside of the Dojo?
A: The ranks that Martial Academy of Jujitsu promote are recognized and certified by the American Jujitsu Association.
Q: Will you ask me if I have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to join class?
A: No, we will not ask and it is not a requirement to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to join class.
Q: I have a particular injury will you be able to accommodate?
A: Depending on the injury, whether it is a new or old/still healing, we will try to accommodate, however it is best to consult your doctor beforehand and then make a sound decision. If so then we will do our best to accommodate and it is also a good idea to let us know of any injury beforehand.
Q: What happens when it snows? Does class cancel or is it a case by case basis?
A: An email will be sent out to inform the class.
